The Orange Farm Sport Confederation (OFSF) is calling on all sports enthusiasts and community members to join them at the Sport Indaba on 19 October, hosted at the Multipurpose Centre.

Having been in existence for years, the OFSF has recently undergone a rebrand and is ready to drive real change in the local sports scene. Representing a variety of sports in Orange Farm, including soccer, netball, cricket, rugby, athletics and more, the Federation is chaired by Godfrey Duma.

The goal of this Sport Indaba is to discuss strategies to enhance all sporting codes, not just football and provide much-needed opportunities for the area’s talented youth. They recognises that a lack of resources and exposure has discouraged many young athletes from pursuing their dreams. They are determined to reverse this trend, bringing both development and hope to Orange Farm’s sporting community.

OFSF’s James Shabangu, said: “The aim is to uplift sports in our area, especially within schools. We want to revive the good old days, where we regularly hosted sports events to showcase local talent. Sports can keep our youth away from drugs, alcohol and crime, while building their character, discipline and self-confidence. Our vision is to nurture top-class athletes who will not only represent Orange Farm but shine on the national and global stage.”

The Sport Indaba promises to be an opportunity for everyone to share ideas, discuss strategies and work together to bring lasting change to Orange Farm sports.

Shabangu expressed his concern, saying: “It’s heartbreaking to see so many young people in Orange Farm falling into drug use, especially with substances like Nyaope. We must fight against this and stop our youth from becoming enslaved by drugs when they have so much potential.”

He emphasised the need for collective action: “With so much talent, it’s a crime not to push our youth to greatness. Together, we can make a difference. I invite all who are passionate about change to attend this Indaba. It will be a fruitful discussion.”

For further details, contact Duma on 072 539 2723 or Gcobi on 073 443 8610.
