The City of Johannesburg and Johannesburg Water join the global community to celebrate World Water Week, which is observed from 20 to 24 August annually.

The City and Joburg Water continuously aim to provide a water secure city that supplies quality water stretching from Orange Farm, in the south of Johannesburg, to Midrand in the north, Roodepoort in the west and Alexandra in the east.

In acknowledgement of World Water Week, Joburg Water encourages residents to actively participate in conservation of water. This year World Water Week 2023 is focused on innovation at a time of unprecedented challenges.

The theme Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water-Wise World invites all to rethink how water is managed. “Every drop counts. Every effort to conserve water makes a difference and contributes to the city’s efforts to provide safe and secure water supply,” says Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala.

She says that water will always be a necessity and a basic need and with the fast-growing population in Johannesburg there is a constant demand for increased water supply.

Here is how we as residents can do our bit in conserving and being more water-wise: Water-saving tips

• Do not leave taps dripping.

• Wash your car on the grass. This will water your lawn at the same time.

• Use a watering can instead of a hosepipe

.• Shorten your showering time.

• Use a glass of water to rinse when brushing your teeth, and do not leave water running while brushing your teeth.

• Take shallow baths. Avoid filling your bath to a depth greater than 100mm.

• Reuse water/use greywater to water your garden or pot plants.

Residents and businesses within the city can also make a difference by contacting Johannesburg Water to report leaks and water damages on the following details

• Tel: 0860 562 874/011 688 1400

• Email: customerserviceemails@jwater.co.za

• SMS:45201
