Siyabonga Mzuza (22), a fruits and vegetables trader is fighting for his life after being brutally attacked and stabbed several times on Saturday, 14 August, in Orange Farm Ext 2.
He was ambushed by criminals who took all the cash he had sold and emptied his trolley which he uses to carry his stock.
According to Siyabonga’s employer, Anthony Sithole, this was not the first time he has been targeted – these robberies happen repeatedly, not only to him but to others as well.
He described the horror of the attack: “He was stabbed in the neck, back and near his heart. Siyabonga did nothing wrong he just sells veggies. These criminals are bold and some of their parents even condone this evil. I’m shattered.”
The attack is part of a worrying trend in Orange Farm where street vendors are increasingly targeted with similar incidents reported in Ext 1 and Drieziek 4 in recent weeks, leaving traders fearful for their safety.
One local seller said: “We are just trying to work, to make a living. The vegetables aren’t even ours-they belong to our employers. Yet we are being attacked and terrorized. We don’t feel safe.”
Residents demand action and increased police visibility to protect vulnerable vendors and end the spate of violent crimes targeting hardworking community members.
