Orange Farm residents are set to experience scheduled load reduction this week as Eskom continues to implement power cuts in parts of Gauteng.
According to a load reduction schedule reported by The Citizen, Orange Farm forms part of Block J, which includes Orange Farm Ext 1 to 4 and 8, as well as neighbouring areas.
Residents should prepare for three scheduled periods of load reduction during the week.
The first is expected on Wednesday, 19 August, from 17:00 to 22:00.
Block J is scheduled to be affected again on Friday, 21 August, from 05:00 to 09:00.
A third interruption is expected on Sunday, 23 August, when Block J is scheduled for load reduction from 17:00 to 22:00.
The scheduled Orange Farm interruptions are therefore:
- Wednesday, 19 August: 17:00–22:00
- Friday, 21 August: 05:00–09:00
- Sunday, 23 August: 17:00–22:00
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by charging essential devices, making alternative arrangements where necessary and treating electrical installations as live during outage periods, as electricity may be restored without warning.
Load reduction differs from load shedding in that it is generally implemented in specific high-demand areas to protect electricity infrastructure from overloading.
Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal remain the last two provinces affected by Eskom’s load reduction programme. According to The Citizen, Eskom is working towards eliminating load reduction completely by 2027.
For Orange Farm households, however, this week’s schedule means residents should prepare for several hours without electricity across Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
