Orange Farm SAPS launched a campaign focusing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and drug abuse on 23 July in Ext 2. The initiative was spearheaded by Sergeant Nonki Moloele, the Victim Friendly Facility (VFF) coordinator, alongside the Crime Prevention Youth Desk and the Community Police Forum (CPF).
The campaign aimed to address the prevalent issues of GBV and drug abuse in the community. It promoted dialogue among partners, encouraging them to resolve conflicts peacefully rather than resorting to violence. Additionally, the campaign sought to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, including substances like Nyaope, Crystal Meth, and other harmful drugs that endanger young boys and girls.
Pamphlets were distributed throughout Ext 2 area, calling on residents to show their commitment to ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a safer, violence-free environment.
The Station Commander, Brigadier MJ Manamela, urged for more interventions to address all forms of violence, particularly against women, children and vulnerable groups such as the LGBTQ+ community. He also commended everyone who participated in the campaign and encouraged all relevant stakeholders to take an active role in leading the awareness efforts on GBV and drug abuse.
