On 24 August, the Uniting Reformed Church in Orange Farm was abuzz with the Second Chance Matric Programme, organized by the Department of Basic Education in collaboration with Johannesburg South District officials, IDSOs, Circuit managers, PCOs, and local councilors.
The event drew attendees from government offices, youth groups, and community organizations.
“We’ve established a dedicated center for the second chance matric at Leshata Secondary School. Those interested can register there. The essence of this program is to grant both youth and adults a chance to complete their matriculation,” expressed Pertunia Mkhohliswa, of PCO.
The driving force behind the Second Chance Matric Programme is to provide essential support to learners who haven’t met the criteria for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC).
This endeavor aligns with the goals of the National Development Plan (NDP) and the educational sector, ultimately enhancing learner retention rates.
This program boasts numerous advantages. Learners can fulfill the requirements for either the NSC or SC, earning their Grade 12 matric certificate. Furthermore, it’s a catalyst for improved learner retention, enhanced computer skills, increased job prospects, and a clearer career trajectory.
Additionally, participants become eligible to pursue bursary opportunities for further academic pursuits.
