Community activist and social justice advocate Thomas Goreseb-Maseko has suspended all public engagements, meetings, and appearances with immediate effect due to growing security concerns and threats to his safety.
The decision comes after the killing of an individual whom Goreseb-Maseko had been assisting in a matter that required support and intervention. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed for safety and security reasons.
According to a statement issued by the Ex-Officio Secretariat of Ncamane Community Activism, the incident follows a series of alleged death threats, intimidation, and other security-related concerns directed at Goreseb-Maseko in recent months.
The organisation said the developments have raised serious concerns about the safety and wellbeing of Goreseb-Maseko, affected families, and others connected to the matter. As a precautionary measure, all scheduled engagements have been cancelled while authorities assess the risks.
Law enforcement agencies and security officials have reportedly been informed of the threats and surrounding circumstances. A threat assessment is currently underway to determine the level of risk and what protection measures may be required.
Despite the suspension of his public activities, Goreseb-Maseko remains committed to the causes of justice, public accountability, and community service. However, the statement noted that personal safety and security must take priority under the current circumstances.
Ncamane Community Activism strongly condemned acts of violence, intimidation, and threats against individuals advocating for vulnerable members of society, describing such actions as an attack on justice, human dignity, constitutional freedoms, and the rule of law.
Further updates regarding the possible resumption of public engagements are expected once it is considered safe to do so.
