The ongoing dispute within the Lady’s Only Stokvel has taken a new turn, with the chairperson, Busisiwe Nobathane, reportedly stepping away from the group amid rising tensions and allegations over missing funds.
Members of the Lady’s Only Stokvel allege that approximately R3,600 is unaccounted for, prompting demands for accountability and a full financial breakdown. The group was reportedly left with a balance of R2,632.58 when Nobathane took over as chairperson in November 2024, having joined the stokvel in April of the same year.
Concerns have also been raised about the stokvel’s linked funeral contributions with Vuyo Funerals, which members say form part of their broader financial commitments and require proper reconciliation alongside the main stokvel funds.
An independent audit was reportedly arranged by members, who identified Motlatsi Mpasa to review the books on 2 May 2026. Members say Mpasa was paid R500 for the audit process, following earlier concerns raised during an April review of the finances.
The situation has since escalated, with Nobathane reportedly expressing fear for her safety due to threats she claims to have received from some members via WhatsApp, who are demanding repayment of the alleged missing funds.
In a statement attributed to her, Busisiwe Nobathane said:
“I fear for my life because of the messages I am receiving. The threats have become overwhelming, and I can no longer continue under these conditions.”
She has since reportedly left the Lady’s Only Stokvel, citing safety concerns and ongoing pressure related to the dispute.
At this stage, the allegations from both sides remain unverified, and no formal findings of wrongdoing have been made against any party involved.
Efforts were made to contact some of the other members mentioned in the allegations for comment, however there was no response at the time of publication. As a result, the matter is currently being reported based on available information and the version provided by those who did respond.
Members say they are still awaiting a full resolution of the matter, including clarity on the stokvel funds, audit findings, and funeral policy contributions.
