Police arrested 41 suspects during Operation Shanela over the past weekend, including 23 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The operation, led by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies, included roadblocks, stop-and-searches and raids on illegal businesses in the area.
Police also shut down eight liquor outlets for failing to comply with the Gauteng Liquor Act.
SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to restore order in communities affected by crime.
“What is worrying is that we are seeing more people driving under the influence of alcohol, which leads to road fatalities,” he said.
During the raids, officers seized illegal goods and took action against unlicensed businesses operating in the area.
Residents reported a visible law enforcement presence throughout the weekend, with increased patrols and roadblocks.
Police have urged community members to work with authorities by reporting criminal activity, emphasising that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.
