After years of working with residents on service delivery and community issues, Rise Up founder Khonzaphi Mbele has taken his activism into formal politics as the African Transformation Movement’s councillor candidate for Ward 4.
Mbele, who is from Drieziek 4, said his decision to stand as a candidate follows years of listening to residents’ frustrations over poor service delivery, limited opportunities for young people and the need for stronger community safety.
“I have worked with the community for many years, listening to residents’ concerns and advocating for change. I believe it is now time to serve them in a different capacity and ensure their voices are heard in council,” said Mbele.
Community member Disebo Majola from Drieziek 4 Block 1 welcomed Mbele’s candidacy, saying many residents believe his years of community involvement make him the right person to represent Ward 4.
“We all believe he could be our saviour, so please let’s give him a chance,” said Majola.
