Unemployed residents and young people participating in the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) are undergoing a three-week security skills training programme aimed at improving their chances of entering the job market.
The training is taking place at the Department’s Sedibeng Service Point in Sebokeng, at the Sebokeng Welfare Complex, 3 Moshoeshoe Street.
Implemented in partnership with Lesego Tech, the programme targets historically disadvantaged youth and unemployed community members and provides participants with accredited security-related skills and practical knowledge.
The initiative also offers a possible pathway into the workplace, with the 20 best-performing trainees expected to be considered for learnership opportunities at various Lesego Tech sites.
This gives participants an added incentive to perform well while gaining practical skills that may strengthen their prospects of finding employment.
The programme forms part of the Department’s broader focus on skills development, poverty alleviation and creating pathways towards economic participation through EPWP initiatives.
Training is continuing in Sebokeng as participants work towards completing the three-week programme and positioning themselves for the available learnership opportunities.
