The winter school holidays have come alive at the SAAYC Orange Farm Centre in Ext 3, where children and young people are swapping idle days for games, learning, teamwork and new friendships.
The School Holiday Programme, which started on 29 June and runs until 17 July 2026, is being driven through a partnership between Wheel Warriors NPC, SAAYC Orange Farm Centre and the Computer Clubhouse
From indigenous games and soccer to team-building challenges, educational sessions and recreational activities, the programme is giving local children a safe and positive space to stay active during the school break.
Organisers say the aim is not only to keep young people occupied, but to help them grow in confidence, develop leadership skills, practise teamwork and learn the value of healthy lifestyles.
For many children, the centre has become more than a holiday venue. It is a place to laugh, move, learn, compete, connect with others and feel part of something uplifting.
Wheel Warriors NPC said the programme reflects what can happen when community organisations and local stakeholders work together for young people.
“We believe every school holiday is an opportunity to inspire, empower and support young people. By working together with SAAYC Orange Farm Centre and the Computer Clubhouse we are creating a safe space where children can learn, play and grow. Together we are building stronger communities and creating brighter futures for the next generation,” the organisation said.
As the programme continues until 17 July, the sound of children playing, cheering and learning at the SAAYC Orange Farm Centre is a reminder that school holidays can be more than time away from class — they can be a chance to discover talent, build confidence and create lasting memories.
