SAPS, OFUTA and Ackermans bring hope to young learner in need
Sgt Motsapi assists learner with school uniform fitting at Ackermans

Earlier this month, during a school campaign at Orange Farm Primary, Sergeant Shaan Motsapi and Sergeant Nonkie Moloele noticed a young boy wearing shoes that were not only badly torn but also far too small for his feet. His uniform was also in poor condition. After speaking with him, they uncovered a heartbreaking reality-the child, who should be wearing a size 5 shoe, was forced to squeeze into a size 2 pair. He and his brother live alone in a poorly built shack in Vosho informal settlement, with no parents and barely any means to survive.

Determined to make a difference, Motsapi contacted the OFUTA Public Relations Officer, Monti Motsopa, which led to the association donating money for school shoes. Motsopa emphasised the importance of community support, saying: “We are playing our part in giving back to the community, which is in line with our ethos.”

Additionally, Sgt Motsapi and Victim Friendly Facility Coordinator Sgt Nonkie Moloele purchased a new uniform, while Ackermans staff members Angel, Maki and Thembi generously contributed sneakers.

Sgt Motsapi, said: “Their living conditions are heartbreaking. No child should suffer like this, especially when they are so determined to get an education. They need food, clothes and, most importantly, a safe place to live. I urge anyone willing to help to step forward-any contribution, big or small, will make a difference.”

This act of kindness proves the power of community and echoes the African proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child.”

If you would like to assist this courageous young learner, please contact Sgt Motsapi at 082 782 1373.
