Orange Farm SAPS, through its communication officer, Sergeant Motsapi, addressed the community, urging residents to take proactive steps in ensuring their safety and well-being.
Key topics discussed included the critical role of partnership policing, preventing house robberies and tackling domestic violence.
Partnership policing: Sergeant Motsapi highlighted the importance of collaboration between the SAPS, Community Policing Forum (CPF), stakeholders and neighbourhood watches. This united front aims to strengthen safety in the community, particularly along high-risk areas like the N1 and R28 Randfontein Road intersection.
Motorists were warned against picking up hitchhikers or stopping on the road unnecessarily, as these actions often invite danger.
House robberies: As the festive season approaches, residents were advised to adopt stringent safety measures to protect themselves from house robberies. Special attention was drawn to stokvel groups, urging them to conduct financial transactions at the bank rather than in homes, which could make them easy targets for criminals. Sgt Motsapi emphasised improving home security to deter potential break-ins.
Domestic Violence: In the face of rising domestic violence cases, the SAPS encouraged partners to engage in non-violent conflict resolution methods and avoid escalating arguments into physical confrontations.
Sergeant Motsapi stressed that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) must be reported immediately, urging both men and women to step forward without fear. He reminded the community that no form of violence is acceptable, and the police are committed to supporting victims.
The Orange Farm SAPS called for all residents to remain vigilant, act responsibly and strengthen their relationship with law enforcement to build a safer and more united community.
