Spark Youth Alive NPO is still feeling the effects of the July 2021 unrests after losing its main sponsor – Orange Farm Build It – which closed down as a result of the looting.
The organisation, based in Ext 7b, develops and nurtures children’s football skills and assists them with school work. Following this sponsorship’s loss, Spark Youth Alive’s membership has declined from more than 130 to only 39 children, with some former members resorting to drugs and substance abuse. Although still operational, the organisation is in dire need of kits, soccer balls, whistles, cones and markers for training. Spark Youth Alive’s coach, Simphiwe ‘Dr Simza’ Khoza told OFN:
“We contribute money to pay for affiliations to play in the Local Football Association (LFA). plead with readers to please support us so that we can rebuild the team and take it back to its former glory.”
