The Orange Farm Local Football Association (OFLFA) officially launched its first-ever Ladies Soccer League on Monday, 10 August, marking a new chapter for women’s football in the area.
The opening day saw three matches played as local teams took to the field for the start of the inaugural season.
Vaal 016 FC made a strong start to their campaign with an 8-1 victory over Ambitious FC, while Elite Queens FC also impressed with an 8-0 win against Black Seven FC.
The third encounter of the day was more closely contested, with Bayern FC and Panthers FC sharing the points following a 2-2 draw.
OFLFA Secretary Patrick Mokwena welcomed the successful start of the league and said seeing the women finally take to the field was encouraging for the association.
“We are very pleased with how the first day of the ladies league went. The teams came out ready to compete and showed that there is a lot of talent among our female players. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to seeing the league grow as more women are given an opportunity to play football,” said Mokwena.
The association hopes the league will continue to provide a sustainable platform for women’s football in Orange Farm while giving local players an opportunity to develop their skills and gain valuable match experience.
OFLFA is also calling on the community to support the teams throughout the season and encouraging local businesses and stakeholders to come on board with sponsorships to help grow the league.
