Beke Le Beke FC added another trophy to their growing collection after being crowned champions of the Duku Duku Super 16 Games Top 32 tournament, taking home the R100,000 winner’s prize.
The club battled through a highly competitive tournament, conceding just one goal on their way to lifting the trophy. Despite their defensive solidity, head coach Xolani Becker Cwebe admitted his side was not as clinical in front of goal as they would have liked.
“It was not an easy tournament, but we fought hard until the last whistle. We only conceded one goal throughout the tournament, but we were not clinical in front of goal. We will go back to the drawing board and hopefully do better in the next tournament,” said Cwebe.
The victory came at a cost, however, as four players picked up injuries during the competition. Cwebe said the club is hopeful they will recover in time for the Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation Soccer Tournament this weekend.
He also praised the club’s supporters for creating an atmosphere that inspired the players to give their best throughout the tournament.
Following the triumph, club chairman Beke demonstrated his generosity by sharing the prize money with the squad and technical team. Of the R100,000 prize, R70,000 was distributed among the players and coaching staff in recognition of their efforts.
“Our supporters always give us energy. They push the players to give even more on the field. We also appreciate the chairman for rewarding the players and technical team. These tournaments are helping us prepare for the DStv Champ of Champs in July, where we want to continue competing at the highest level,” Cwebe said.
Beke Le Beke will now shift their focus to the Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation Soccer Tournament before turning their attention to the highly anticipated DStv Champ of Champs later this month.
