Wheel Warriors recently participated in a Leadership and Governance Training Workshop hosted by the Southern African Association of Youth Clubs (SAAYC), alongside 14 other community organisations from across Gauteng.
Participants included representatives from Earth’s Heritage Environmental, Struggles Theatre Productions, Abantu Literacy League, Unlimited Peace and Smiles, and several other community-based groups from across Gauteng.
The training focused on governance and organisational development, equipping participants with practical knowledge on how to build effective and sustainable organisations. Key discussions centred on board structures, the roles and responsibilities of board members, and the importance of recruiting individuals with the right skills, experience, and commitment to help organisations grow and function effectively.

Participants also received training on leadership development, teamwork, reporting structures, compliance requirements, and strengthening community-based organisations. Through group discussions and interactive activities, attendees gained valuable insights into improving leadership capacity and organisational effectiveness.
The knowledge gained from the workshop will assist Wheel Warriors in strengthening its governance systems, improving programme delivery, and expanding its impact within Orange Farm and surrounding communities.
“On behalf of Wheel Warriors, we would like to thank SAAYC for giving us this opportunity to learn and grow as an organisation. The training has equipped us with important skills that will help us better serve our community and strengthen our leadership structures,” said Lucky Niewenhout.
Wheel Warriors remains committed to empowering young people through cycling development, digital skills training, inclusive sports, and community development initiatives.
