South West Gauteng TVET College (SWC) visited the Selte Centre in Orange Farm today to educate and inform young people, including youth living with disabilities, about opportunities available at TVET colleges.
The Selte Centre, led by deputy president Mthokozisi Radebe and president Zanokuhle Tshedzani, continues to create platforms that empower and support young people within the community.

The visit focused on guiding learners and unemployed youth on different study paths and career opportunities offered through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Representative from the college, Khanye Mbuli, also explained ongoing changes within the TVET sector, particularly the gradual phasing out of NATED courses and the introduction of Occupational Programmes aimed at providing more practical and skills-based training.
“We want young people to understand that TVET colleges provide practical skills that can help them become employable and even start their own businesses,” said Mbuli.
Mbuli added that the introduction of Occupational Programmes is aimed at equipping students with hands-on experience that responds to the needs of the job market.
According to the officials, some of the Occupational Programmes currently available include Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Chef training programmes.
“Our goal is to create a supportive environment where young people can access opportunities, gain knowledge and build a better future for themselves,” said Radebe.
Young people attending the session were encouraged to consider vocational education as a pathway to employment, entrepreneurship and further career development. The initiative also aimed to ensure that youth living with disabilities are included in educational opportunities and have access to information that can help shape their futures.
The awareness session formed part of efforts to bring education information directly into communities and encourage more young people in Orange Farm to further their studies and skills development.
