The Umdlali WeDiski Podcast and Kweneng FC Fun Day Soccer Tournament got off to an exciting start, with Kweneng FC’s Under-17 side producing two impressive victories to lead the early standings.
Playing in front of enthusiastic supporters, Kweneng FC opened their campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Young Magic FC before following it up with a dominant 3-0 victory against Mshengu XI FC. The two wins secured maximum points and placed Kweneng among the early favourites in the competition.
Mshengu XI FC bounced back strongly from their opening defeat, edging Spitz FC 4-3 in a thrilling encounter to keep their hopes of reaching the next stage alive.
The two-day tournament, organised by Umdlali WeDiski Podcast in partnership with Kweneng FC, has brought together teams from across the community in the Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and senior divisions.
More than just a football competition, the event aims to promote youth development, friendship and community unity while giving young players an opportunity to showcase their talent in a competitive environment.
Kweneng FC coach Philani praised his team’s determination after the opening matches.
“The boys showed great character and discipline. Winning both games gives us confidence, but we know there is still a lot of football to be played. We want to stay focused and continue improving with every match,” he said.
