Cycling communities united in a powerful memorial ride honouring the late Sanele Mhlungu, led by Wheel Warriors, who completed a 92.39 km journey from Orange Farm to Soweto.About 156 cyclists took part, riding together with teams including Soweto’s
Finest Crew, Bhoni4Kasi, Critical Mass, African Tikkun Cycling Team, Kagiso Cyclists, Soweto Cycling Legends, Protea Wheelers, Glen Cycling Club, Soweto Cyclers Club, BANDITZ, Girls on Bikes, Two Wheelers, Jaga Outdoor Cycling, and others.

On arrival in Soweto, riders joined a large memorial gathering where the emotional highlight was the unveiling of a ghost bike in Sanele’s honour, symbolising remembrance and road safety awareness. The moment carried deeper emotion as Sanele’s child was present and even rode with the group. Cyclists later lifted their bikes in a unified tribute.
Wheel Warriors’ Lucky reflected on the ride, saying:“This ride was not just about distance, it was about honouring Sanele and standing with his family. We ride for awareness, but today we rode for respect, unity, and change on our roads.”
For Wheel Warriors, the ride represented solidarity with the family and a continued call for safer roads for cyclists across communities.
