Young children from Tjovitjo and surrounding communities enjoyed a fun-filled day of sport, teamwork and healthy competition during the Reitshepile Developers Club Sports Day, an event aimed at encouraging physical activity and bringing families together through early childhood development.
The event, organised by Ntombi Ntamane, Christina Moloi and Kate Vilakazi, welcomed children from local early childhood development (ECD) centres to participate in a variety of sporting activities. While the day was filled with excitement and smiles, the organisers said hosting the event was not without its challenges.
Because the sports day took place during the school holidays, many children were staying at home instead of attending their ECD centres. This resulted in lower attendance and reduced school fee and sports contributions from parents, making it difficult to cover the costs of the venue, food, trophies, medals and entertainment.
Despite these obstacles, the organisers remained committed to ensuring the children enjoyed a memorable experience.
“It was a big challenge to organise the sports day because it took place during the school holidays. We tried to involve as many crèches as possible and invited parents and community members to join us. Although not everyone was able to attend, we sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us and helped make the day a success,” said Ntamane.
The organisers thanked parents for their financial contributions and continued encouragement, while also acknowledging Aquelle for providing refreshments that kept the children hydrated throughout the event.
Special appreciation was extended to Pule Motloung for allowing Reitshepile Developers Club to use the venue, and to SmartStart, the umbrella organisation supporting ECD centres, for its continued guidance and support.
“We are grateful to all the parents who stood by us and made this event possible. Their support is helping us put Tjovitjo on the map and create opportunities for our children. We pray that God blesses every person who continues to support our centre,” Ntamane added.
Following the success of the sports day, Reitshepile Developers Club plans to include the event in its annual programme to encourage children to stay active, build confidence and develop healthy lifestyles from an early age.
The organisers have also appealed to local businesses to partner with the initiative by sponsoring future events to ensure even more children can benefit.
They concluded by thanking the parents and residents of Tjovitjo Phase 1, Tjovitjo Phase 2 and Mountain View for their continued support.
“Together, we can continue nurturing our children from a young age and create a brighter future for them through education, sport and community involvement,” Ntamane said.
