Lefelleng Apostolic Church Choir from Orange Farm Ext 7b has been nominated in the Best Apostolic Music Award category at the 2nd Annual Choral Indigenous Music Awards (CIMA) 2026.
The nomination marks a significant achievement for the choir and the wider Orange Farm community, placing local talent on a national stage that celebrates South Africa’s rich indigenous choral music heritage.
Organised by Sounds of Azania, the Choral Indigenous Music Awards recognise excellence and outstanding contributions within indigenous and choral music across the country. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 25 July at AMPD Studios and will be streamed live on digital platforms.
Speaking about the growth of the awards, CIMA founder and managing director Msizi Mavundla said the initiative was created to honour and preserve Africa’s rich choral heritage while providing a platform for talented artists and groups to gain recognition.
“The Choral Indigenous Music Awards continue to grow as a leading platform dedicated to celebrating indigenous choral music. We are committed to preserving this important cultural heritage and creating opportunities for artists and choirs to showcase their talent to wider audiences,” Mavundla said.
CIMA Project Manager Jennifer Mdluli said the awards are about more than competition, describing them as a movement that strengthens cultural identity and community participation.
“The awards celebrate the voices, stories and traditions of our communities. Through music, we are building connections, inspiring younger generations and ensuring that indigenous choral music remains a vibrant part of South Africa’s cultural landscape,” Mdluli said.
Lefelleng Apostolic Church Choir is now calling on community members, supporters and church congregants to vote and help the group secure the prestigious award.
Voting opened on 9 March and will close on 19 July 2026. Supporters can vote by sending an SMS with the code CIMA 2651 to 40439. Each SMS costs R2, and there is no limit to the number of votes that can be cast.
The nomination reflects the choir’s dedication to preserving apostolic and indigenous choral music while inspiring worship, unity and community pride through song. It also highlights Orange Farm’s growing contribution to South Africa’s cultural and creative industries.
