Orange Farm-born streetwear brand Ghetto Life is using fashion to tell a different story about township life – one rooted in pride, resilience, creativity and community.
Founded in 2025 by Mokete Molapise, popularly known as Thola, the brand was created after he grew tired of seeing township culture portrayed only through struggle and negativity. For him, Orange Farm represents much more than hardship. It is a place of hustle, music, style, friendship and people constantly finding ways to create something from very little.
Molapisi told OFN:“Ghetto Life is not about glorifying struggle. It is about respecting where we come from and showing the truth – that the hood is full of talent, creativity and people who are building something every day.”
The brand produces heavyweight T-shirts, hoodies and trackpants made for everyday wear, with designs inspired by Orange Farm township culture, local slang, township house patterns and familiar landmarks. Each clothing drop is limited to only 20 to 30 pieces, giving the brand an exclusive feel while avoiding overproduction.
Although the name carries a raw street attitude, Molapise says quality remains important.
“The message can be street, but the clothing must still feel premium. We want people to wear Ghetto Life with confidence, knowing it represents their roots and their truth,” he added.
Beyond clothing, Ghetto Life aims to create opportunities within the community by working with local artists, barbers and DJs through collaborations and pop-up events. The goal is to keep both money and exposure circulating in Orange Farm, where the brand was born.
With its slogan, “Respect the roots, live the truth,” Ghetto Life is positioning itself as more than a clothing label. It is becoming a statement for young people from the township who want to be seen, respected and represented on their own terms.
