The Mau-Mau Youth Soccer League (MYSL) was officially launched on 21 June at Solwazi Primary School in Drieziek 5, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter for youth development through football in the community.

The launch was filled with energy, purpose and a clear commitment to long-term impact. MYSL is not just a soccer league; it’s a social movement aimed at confronting real challenges facing young people by using football as a vehicle to build discipline, unlock potential and foster pride.

Even before the official launch, Drieziek Lions FC registered their team, reflecting the community’s confidence in the vision of the league. MYSL has since announced its first official tournament, which will be hosted at Bhengu Ground in Drieziek 5 on 11, 12, 14 and 15 July.

A team meeting and draw will take place on 30 June at 5pm. The tournament will cater to various age groups-U8, U12, U14 and U17- with entry fees ranging from R80 to R200. Both boys and girls will compete in their respective divisions.

Prizes will include participation certificates for the youngest group, while winners and runners-up in the older categories will receive trophies and medals. All teams entering the tournament will automatically become part of the MYSL structure, and only registered players with official cards will be eligible to play. The registration deadline is 30 June, and entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

“This is not just football it’s a tool to guide our youth away from the streets and into a future filled with discipline, dreams and purpose,” said Nathi Mau Mau, founder of MYSL.

The league is now calling on sponsors, local leaders and football enthusiasts to rally behind this movement and help build a brighter future for Orange Farm.
