On 30 May, Orange Farms SAPS opened its doors to local learners for a powerful “Take a Child to Work Day” initiative, led by the SAPS Women’s Network and Men for Change forums.
This annual career exposure event aims to educate and inspire learners by allowing them to spend a full day inside the police station, observing various departments and learning about different roles in law enforcement.
The day featured workplace tours and personal career insights shared by senior officers, including Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole and Acting Sedibeng District Commissioner Brigadier Mashole Manamela.
Major General Sithole encouraged learners to remain focused, disciplined, and to avoid crime.”Stay away from wrongdoing and take full responsibility for your future. You have the power to change your life and your community,” she told the learners.
Orange Farm’s station commander, Brigadier Manamela applauded the young participants for showing interest and commitment. “Your willingness to learn will determine how far you go. Academic excellence starts with desire and dedication,” he said.
At the end of the programme, learners received gifts as tokens of appreciation, sponsored by SAPS Women’s Network, Men for Change, Orange Farm Taxi Association (OFUTA), Standard Bank and Plus Supermarket in Extension 3.
SAPS Communication Officer Sgt Shaan Motsapi, extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the day’s success. “We appreciate the support from Thetha Secondary School, Orange Farm Ext 6A Multi-Purpose Centre, Stretford Clinic Ext 2, Orange Farm News and other partners. Together, we are planting seeds for a safer and more informed future.”
