Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile joined law enforcement agencies during a school search and seizure operation at Duzenendlela Special School in Orange Farm on 4 August 2026.
The SAPS-led operation involved learner screening, searches and discussions with school management to identify safety risks and strengthen discipline.
“The operation includes school searches, learner screening and ongoing engagements with school management to identify safety concerns and reinforce measures that support a safe and disciplined learning environment,” the Gauteng Department of Education said.
Police were supported by the Gauteng Provincial Traffic Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Brinant Group and other law enforcement partners.
Officials also assessed concerns raised at the school and reviewed measures aimed at protecting learners and staff.
The intervention forms part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to address weapons, drugs, violence and other safety threats at schools.
