Kweneng FC head coach Philani believes the club is moving in the right direction and remains confident that the team will continue to improve following another valuable season in the Orange Farm Local Football Association (OFLFA) Super League.
Founded in 2021, Kweneng FC began by competing in local football tournaments before taking the next step in its journey by joining the OFLFA in 2024. The move into league football marked a new chapter for the club as it looked to establish itself among Orange Farm’s competitive teams.
The club’s first league campaign was led by the late Coach Charmaine, who played a pivotal role in shaping both the team and Coach Philani’s development. While he managed the senior side, Philani gained valuable coaching experience by leading the club’s junior teams across several age groups.
“Coach Charmaine was the one who developed me as a coach. While he was in charge of the Super League team, I was coaching the U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 teams as part of my development. Sadly, he passed away last year, and I then took over the first team,” said Philani.
Following Coach Charmaine’s passing, Philani stepped into the role of head coach, taking on the responsibility of guiding the first team while continuing the vision that had been established from the club’s early days.
Although Kweneng FC fell short of winning the league this season, with Junior Stars FC being crowned champions, Philani believes the campaign has provided valuable lessons that will strengthen the team going forward.
“We will surely do better next season. Every season teaches us something, and we are working hard to build a competitive team that can challenge for honours,” he said.
Beyond the senior team, Kweneng FC continues to place strong emphasis on youth development. The club runs teams from U9 through to U17, creating opportunities for young players to develop their skills and progress into the senior squad.
As the club continues to grow on and off the field, Kweneng FC remains focused on building a competitive team capable of challenging for top honours in future OFLFA seasons. With a solid youth structure, committed leadership and valuable league experience now behind them, the club is optimistic about what lies ahead.
