Young dancers from Orange Farm are heading for a national stage after impressive performances at the Schools Dance Competition earned Masibambane Primary and High School top honours.
The competition, held at the LoveLife Centre in Orange Farm Ext 6, saw the school’s primary and high school dance groups take to the stage on separate dates.
On 28 August 2026, the Masibambane Primary School dance group delivered a strong performance that earned them second place in their category. The young dancers walked away with medals and a trophy in recognition of their achievement.
A week later, on 4 September 2026, the high school dancers took their turn on stage and secured first place, adding another major achievement to the school’s growing dance programme.
The performances also opened the door to a bigger stage for three Masibambane dancers, who qualified to represent the school at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, in 2027.
The school described the results as a proud moment for its learners and the wider school community.
“Our dancers worked incredibly hard and represented Masibambane with pride. Seeing our primary learners secure second place and our high school dancers take first place is a wonderful achievement. We are especially proud that three of our dancers will have the opportunity to represent the school in Makhanda in 2027,” the school said.
The qualification gives the three dancers an opportunity to showcase their talent beyond Orange Farm and gain experience on a national arts platform.
For Masibambane, the achievements of 28 August and 4 September highlight the role that school-based arts programmes can play in developing young talent, building confidence and giving learners opportunities beyond the classroom.
