The murder case against an Orange Farm police detective has been postponed to 20 July to allow him to appoint legal representation and bring a formal Schedule 6 bail application.
Detective Constable Elias Moeketsi Pinkoane (34), from Orange Farm Police Station, appeared briefly in the Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder, attempted murder, handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and discharging a firearm in a public place.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Communications Officer Tshegofatso Makhudu, the postponement was granted to enable the accused to secure legal representation before proceeding with his bail application.
“The matter was postponed to 20 July 2026 to allow the accused an opportunity to appoint legal representation and to bring a formal Schedule 6 bail application,” said Makhudu.
The charges relate to a shooting incident that allegedly occurred on 12 July at BK Lifestyle in Sebokeng.
It is further alleged that the accused then walked to a state vehicle, retrieved a firearm through the vehicle window, and opened fire in the direction of the customer and several other people standing nearby before fleeing the scene,” Makhudu added.
One person was killed and several others were injured in the shooting before the accused was arrested later that day at his residence.
Pinkoane remains in custody and is expected to return to court on 20 July for his formal bail application.
