From the streets of Orange Farm Ext 3 to crafting a sound that blends multiple genres with meaning, local artist Siphelele Buthelezi better known as Brownboy Laser is carving out his own lane in the music industry.
Born in Soweto and raised in Orange Farm, Brownboy Laser’s love for music started at a young age during a Grade 4 school arts assessment. What began as a childhood passion soon grew into a calling, inspired by hip hop’s storytelling power and emotional depth.
His stage name “Laser” was given to him by fellow rapper Protocol during his early days in music, while his brother, Bongani Buthelezi, became one of the biggest influences encouraging him to take his talent seriously.
Rather than sticking to one style, Brownboy Laser experiments freely across rap, reggae, Afrobeat, amapiano, R&B and alternative sounds, creating music that reflects both creativity and emotion.
For the artist, music carries a deeper purpose beyond entertainment.
“Music is more than entertainment to me. It’s a mission. I believe it has the power to heal, uplift and unite people, and that’s the energy I put into every song I create,” he said.
In 2021, Brownboy Laser co-founded Chromatic Music Group alongside Zekkeraps and JD.S, forming a creative collective dedicated to pushing artistic boundaries and supporting originality.
Away from the microphone, the multi-talented artist also handles the directing, shooting and editing of his own visuals, making sure every release fully represents his vision and message.
With soulful melodies, energetic rhythms and fearless experimentation, Brownboy Laser continues to use music as a tool for inspiration, positivity and connection — proving that Orange Farm continues to produce artists with both talent and purpose.
