Members of the LGBTQIA+ community, local residents and healthcare workers gathered for the “Walk With Pride” March and Dialogue hosted by Clean Touch on 8 May 2026.
The event started at the Y Centre stop sign and concluded at the Clean Touch premises, where participants took part in health awareness activities and discussions aimed at promoting inclusion, dignity and access to healthcare services.
During the event, attendees were offered a range of free services including HIV testing and counselling, health services, PrEP initiation, STI screening, as well as lubricant and condom distribution.
Organisers said the initiative was aimed at creating a safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community while also encouraging people to prioritise their health and wellbeing.
Clean Touch representative Xolisile Nxumalo said the event was an important platform for education, support and unity within the community.
“The Walk With Pride march was about creating awareness, promoting acceptance and ensuring that people have access to vital health services without fear of discrimination. We are happy with the support shown by the community,” said Nxumalo.
Participants also engaged in dialogue sessions focusing on challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, access to healthcare and the importance of fighting stigma and discrimination.
Organisers expressed gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the initiative, saying they hope to host more community empowerment events in the future.
