Orange Farm Holy Joint Artist Development has been nominated for Album of The Year and Emerging Choir of the Year at the Tshwane Indigenous Awards to take place on 4 November.

The ensemble seeks your votes to bring the gongs home.

Started by Mthokozisi Nene in 2012 as a school choir, it evolved to a community group and later became an artist development agency with 80 members. In 2019 and 2020, the group was nominated for Best Upcoming Choir at the Mmino Wa Clap and Tap Awards. They have performed at the Johannesburg Arts Alive Festival and also receive bookings from other choirs.

Holy Joint’s Kgotlello Makhura, told OFN: “We are very happy to be nominated in these awards which recognize and celebrate the talent in the indigenous music genre. Funding is a huge challenge for us especially with transportation, upskilling our members and more. We always offer our members opportunities to learn more within the industry for them to grow and prosper.”

The choir also encounters other challenges including lack of space to perform. Makhura added: “Whenever we need a hall, it’s a struggle, we hope we can get assistance as we need halls to perform. We have stakeholders, companies, groups and individuals helping us in certain aspects like Yyfam Productions that has been helping with PR and marketing. We really need funding and urge anyone who would like to help to please contact us on 078 957 6955.”

To vote for ‘Album of The Year’:

SMS Tima Album Orange Farm Holy Joint Artist Development to 40439

For ‘Emerging Choir’:

Voting closes on 30 September.
