Residents of Drieziek Extension 3 could soon benefit from improved access to the developing Drieziek Recreation Park, as construction work on the surrounding access roads progresses.
The project, being implemented by the City of Johannesburg through the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), forms part of the City’s broader Orange Farm Turnkey Programme.
According to an update published by the City on 8 September 2026, the contractor had returned to site to resume the outstanding work, which includes road layer preparation and concrete block paving.
The improvements are intended to address access challenges experienced by residents living around the park, particularly where existing gravel roads and differences in road levels at residential entrances make movement difficult during rainy weather.

The remaining work also includes the relocation of existing Johannesburg Water services, alongside the road construction and paving.
Once completed, the upgraded access roads are expected to make it easier for residents to reach their homes and the recreational facility, while improving movement around the surrounding neighbourhood.
Beyond the road improvements, the recreation park is being developed as a community space offering a range of facilities for residents of different age groups.
The planned amenities include multipurpose sports courts for futsal and tennis, a children’s play area, an outdoor gym, an amphitheatre, pedestrian walkways, landscaped green spaces and an agricultural component aimed at promoting urban food production.
The facility is expected to provide a space for sporting activities, community gatherings, cultural performances and recreational activities, while encouraging healthier lifestyles and greater social interaction.
The development is part of the City’s efforts to improve public infrastructure and community facilities in Greater Orange Farm.
JDA chief executive officer Themba Mathibe said the reinstatement of the outstanding works was an important step towards completing the facility and ensuring that the infrastructure responds to residents’ needs.
The City indicated that completion of the remaining works was anticipated by 20 December 2026.
For residents of Drieziek, the completion of the project would represent an additional recreational facility in the community, alongside improved access to surrounding homes and public spaces.
