The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA), together with the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Transport, Kenny Kunene, visited Drieziek Ward 5 today as part of ongoing service delivery efforts under the Operation Restore programme. They were joined by community members and Ward 5 Councillor Mxolisi Nzondo, who accompanied officials during engagements with residents and inspections of local infrastructure.
The visit formed part of the City’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and addressing service delivery concerns raised by communities. Residents were given an opportunity to interact with city officials and highlight challenges affecting their area.
Operation Restore, launched in 2023 by Kunene, aims to improve road infrastructure and transport hubs across the City of Johannesburg. The initiative focuses on road maintenance and rehabilitation through road patching, filling potholes, repainting road markings, cleaning kerb inlets, and unblocking stormwater drainage systems. The programme is designed to improve road safety, ease traffic flow, and enhance the overall condition of transport infrastructure throughout the city.
Speaking during the visit, Kunene said the programme is being implemented systematically across Johannesburg’s regions to ensure that all communities benefit from the intervention.
“We target two roads per region and then move to other regions before rotating back,” he said.
Kunene further explained that the City works closely with ward councillors, local stakeholders, and community members to identify priority areas and maximise the impact of the programme.
“We call on the expertise within the wards where we are working and ensure that we maximise our efforts to achieve the best results for residents,” he said.
Ward 5 residents welcomed the visit, expressing hope that the ongoing intervention will help address long-standing infrastructure challenges in the area. The JRA’s work in Drieziek forms part of broader efforts by the City of Johannesburg to restore and maintain critical road infrastructure while improving service delivery across communities.
