Kaizer Chiefs hung on for a 3-2 victory over Cape Town Spurs in a PSL clash played at an empty FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The game went ahead with no fans at the 90-000 capacity venue after Chiefs received a stadium ban due to unruly behaviour from fans on multiple occasions this season.
Despite no noise comings from the stands, Amakhosi raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening 25 minutes when Edson Castillo and Ranga Chivaviro found the back of the net. The Cape side though pulled a goal back just before the halftime break when Luvuyo Phewa received a ball played over the top of the Chiefs defence and beat Itumeleng Khune.
The visitors certainly came out after the interval with a renewed energy and threatened Khune’s goal on a few occasions looking for the equaliser. Amakhosi however always looked good going forward and substitute Christian Saile eased the pressure on the hosts when he made it 3-1 with seven minutes remaining.
Spurs were not done though and found a late consolation in injury-time when 17-year-old Luke Baartman scored to put some gloss on the scoreline.The three points move Chiefs up to seventh in the league standings ahead of the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at the weekend. Cape Town stay bottom of the table having only won one of their first 10 matches this campaign.
