In a community where sporting facilities are limited and resources scarce, a group of determined young golfers from Orange Farm are proving that talent, passion and perseverance can still drive success.
At just 7 to 13 years old, these budding athletes showcased their skills at the prestigious Sun Valley Golf Resort, where the Smart Golf Academy hosted a junior tournament that brought together young talent from across the region.
While the event coincided with the Youth Day commemorations on June 16, the real celebration was watching these youngsters challenge themselves on the fairways-many for the first time on a course of this calibre.
The top 3 winners in the Junior League stood out for their composure and talent: Tshiamo “Tshitshi” Makamedi – 1st place, Andani Makhadi – 2nd place while Serafim Leite- 3rd place.
Proud parents and community members cheered from the sidelines, some walking the course alongside the players, while others took to the greens themselves. The tournament was not just about scores-it was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when youth are given opportunities to thrive. With continued support, these young golfers are poised to break barriers in a sport still seen as elite.
