On 10 December 2022, a missing person file of a 28-year-old female, Nomvula Chenene was opened at the Orange Farms SAPS, investigators finally made a breakthrough on the case when they discovered a decomposed body buried in a shallow grave in Lakeside Ext 2 on Sunday, 25 March 2023.
SAPS spokesperson, Cpt Fikile Funda said: “A team from National Forensic exhumed the remains (bones – body) and confirmed the remains to be of a female. A family member confirmed on the scene with clothing and gold teeth that the body is that of their missing child. We are awaiting the results of Postmortem, DNA and Victim Identification Unit. A 34-year-old male suspect has been arrested and will be charged with murder.
On the day of her disappearance, Nomvula left her home in Lakeside to check on a friend and never returned. She was wearing a white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and white tekkies.
