The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed its social grant payment schedule for September 2026, with beneficiaries urged to take note of the dates as well as an additional payment day set aside for certain grants under review.
Payments for the main social grants will begin during the first week of September. The schedule is as follows:
- Older Persons Grants: Wednesday, 2 September 2026
- Disability Grants: Thursday, 3 September 2026
- Children’s Grants: Friday, 4 September 2026
- Fourth payment day: Monday, 7 September 2026
The September dates have also been independently reported following SASSA’s announcement.
The fourth payment day on 7 September is particularly important for beneficiaries whose grants have been targeted for review. According to information accompanying SASSA’s September payment schedule, beneficiaries who do not receive their grants on their usual payment dates but are paid on the fourth payment day may have been selected for a review.
Those affected are encouraged to visit their nearest SASSA office before the 18th of the following month to complete the review process. Beneficiaries should take the required supporting documents, which may include proof of income, proof of marital status and other relevant documentation.
SASSA has previously explained that failure to cooperate with a grant review or provide required documents may result in the suspension of a social grant.
Meanwhile, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant does not follow the same fixed payment dates as the main grants and will be processed on rolling dates later in September. Beneficiaries should check their individual payment status to determine when their money will be available.
Beneficiaries are also reminded to pay attention to official SASSA communication regarding reviews and their grant status and to provide requested information when required.
