Children from early childhood development (ECD) centres in Orange Farm had the opportunity to learn about different professions during a Career Day hosted at Morning Star ECD in Drieziek 5 on 23 October. The event was hosted and organized by Morning Star in partnership with Kopanang Ma Afrika ECD Association to introduce young children to different careers and help them learn about the jobs they could pursue when they grow up.
Speaking to Orange Farm News, Sanna Mokoena from Morning Star ECD, said the Career Day went very well and extends gratitude to all stakeholders. The initiative aimed to help children understand the different roles people play in their communities while encouraging them to dream about their futures.
Through career-themed activities and presentations, the children were introduced to professions that help keep communities safe, healthy and functioning. The event also highlighted the role played by ECD centres in children’s early development. By exposing children to different careers at a young age, educators can help broaden their understanding of the world and encourage them to explore their interests.

Kopanang Ma Afrika ECD Association had invited businesses, organizations and community stakeholders to support the event through sponsorships and donations. Requested contributions included snacks, refreshments, educational materials, stationery and other items for the children. The association said the initiative was particularly important in communities where many ECD centres operate with limited resources.
The Career Day aimed to create a learning experience where children could interact with positive role models and begin imagining what they might want to become in the future. The event brought learning beyond the classroom, allowing children to explore different professions through dress-up activities and practical engagement. By introducing careers in a way that children can understand, initiatives such as the ECD Career Day help build curiosity, confidence and awareness from an early age.
