Covid 19 FC were recently crowned champions of the Born Again Super 16 Tournament held at Stende Grounds, Ext 6a after a commanding 2-0 victory over Finetown Monaco in the final.

The champions walked away with R35 000 and a sheep.

The tournament’s knockout stages delivered tense encounters and nerve-wracking penalty shootouts, the quarter-finals opened with 680 FC falling 1-0 to Covid 19. Born Again FC and Isicathulo played to a goalless draw before Isicathulo advanced 6-5 on penalties. McDonald’s and Foster FC shared a 1-1 draw, with McDonald’s edging through 5-4 in the shootout. Izingwenya and Finetown Monaco also finished 0-0, as Monaco progressed 4-3 on penalties.

In the semi-finals, Covid 19 proved their title credentials with a 2-0 win over McDonald’s while Finetown Monaco secured their spot in the final after edging Isicathulo 1-0.

“I am immensely proud of the hard work and commitment that the team has shown. This victory belongs to all of us. They played for each other, and that is what champions do,” said team manager Nonhlanhla Kekana.

“They showed incredible strength to overcome challenges and fought until the final whistle. We will take this experience and continue to build for the future,” she added
