The residents of Orange Farm are set to benefit from a significant healthcare upgrade as plans for a new hospital in the area move forward. This development is part of the Gauteng provincial government’s broader initiative to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the province.

During the State of the Province Address on 15 August, Premier Panyaza Lesufi highlighted the critical need for infrastructure investment, particularly in healthcare, as part of the 7th Administration’s priorities. Building on this, Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, provided further details on Tuesday, 20 August, focusing on the progress of four new hospitals, including the much-anticipated Orange Farm Hospital.

MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko confirmed that suitable land for the Orange Farm Hospital has already been identified, and land suitability investigations are nearing completion. This hospital is expected to be a game-changer for the Orange Farm community, bringing much-needed healthcare services closer to home.

“The establishment of the Orange Farm Hospital will address the healthcare needs of our community, reducing the strain on nearby facilities and ensuring that residents have access to quality medical care without having to travel long distances,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.

This hospital is part of a broader strategy to expand healthcare services in Gauteng, aimed at bridging the gap in healthcare provision in township areas. With over 16 million people in the province, more than 80% of whom rely on public healthcare, the addition of new hospitals like the one planned for Orange Farm is crucial.

In addition to Orange Farm, new hospitals are also planned for Daveyton, Soshanguve, and Diepsloot. These projects are at various stages of development, with the Daveyton Hospital project having received approval from the National Department of Health and funding secured through the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

The Gauteng Department of Health is working closely with the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development to finalize all necessary steps, including land suitability investigations, to ensure that these hospitals can be built as planned. The Orange Farm Hospital, in particular, is expected to significantly enhance healthcare access and outcomes for the local community, offering a vital service that will save lives and improve the well-being of residents.

As these developments unfold, the community of Orange Farm can look forward to a brighter, healthier future with the promise of improved healthcare facilities on the horizon.
