The Orange Farm Academy Tutoring Program, aimed at keeping children off the streets and improving their results, has resumed its free lessons for over 250 Grade 10 and 11 learners from Jabulile Secondary.

Launched last year by a group of local graduates, they conduct lessons every Saturday at Orange Farm Primary School.

Dedicated volunteers, Nthabiseng Monokoa, Thabiso Mbele, Teboho Lekeno, Danile Nkidi, Tebogo Rapakgadi, Lehlohonolo Mbele, Lunga Fulumeni, Mmathapelo Gumbi, Lerato Mokhemisa, Tokelo Nhlapo, and Siyabonga Mokababa, provide assistance in all major subjects, except Life Orientation and Languages.

Rapakgadi told Orange Farm News: “We also assist Orange Farm Primary’s Grade 7s in Mathematics. When we started, we identified that some learners couldn’t attend afternoon classes due to hunger. This raised concern, and we took proactive measures by reaching out to a few individuals. We secured lunch for the learners, and we are profoundly thankful for the assistance received. In recent Saturdays, we’ve provided lunch to our learners, ensuring that no student leaves the school premises prematurely. Witnessing the smiles on their faces and the renewed energy they display in the classroom post-lunch has been a truly uplifting experience.”

The tutors express their gratitude to the mothers who have contributed to meal preparations for the learners, the efficient team behind the scenes, their fellow tutors, and all the remarkable staff members involved in making this initiative possible.
