Every Saturday morning, community members lace up their takkies and gather for a free fitness session hosted by Magic Gym, an initiative aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles while bringing residents together through exercise.
The weekly step sessions take place in two locations, with morning workouts held at the steps next to the Extension 2 Clinic and later sessions hosted at Bakgatleng Pub. Open to people of all fitness levels, the programme encourages participants to stay active in a fun, welcoming environment at no cost.
Now in its third annual step session campaign, the initiative continues to attract growing numbers of residents who enjoy energetic workouts, music and a strong sense of community.
Magic Gym founder Mduduzi Mthembu said the sessions are about more than just fitness.
“Our goal is to create a healthier community by making fitness accessible to everyone. We want people to know that you don’t need expensive gym memberships to take care of your health. Every Saturday we come together, motivate one another and prove that small steps today lead to a stronger tomorrow,” said Mthembu.
He encouraged residents to bring along friends and family members, saying the sessions are designed to inspire people of all ages to adopt healthier lifestyles while building positive community relationships.
The free Saturday step sessions continue every week, with organisers inviting anyone interested to simply arrive with comfortable workout clothes, water and plenty of energy.
