Young readers spread their wings into the world of birds during a storytelling and learning session hosted by Drieziek Library.
The programme combined reading, learning and creativity as children explored different bird species while developing an interest in books and the natural world.
As part of the session, the children enjoyed the online story Tweetie the Brave Bird, before learning more about birds such as parrots and those found in rainforests.
The library also used Children’s Encyclopaedia by Miles Kelly to introduce the young participants to facts about different species, turning the storytelling session into an interactive learning experience.
After exploring the colourful world of their feathered friends, the children put their creativity to work with a bird-colouring activity.
The initiative forms part of Drieziek Library’s efforts to make reading enjoyable and expose children to educational activities beyond the classroom.
Through programmes that combine stories with practical activities, libraries can provide children with opportunities to build their knowledge, imagination and curiosity while encouraging a culture of reading from a young age.
