Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa remains in his plans and may even play against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

The former Stellenbosch FC midfield hardman had been linked with a move away from the club in the recent transfer window, and has yet to feature under the Tunisian mentor. Following Chiefs’ 3-1 Betway Premiership win over AmaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium last night, Nabi affirmed his belief in his entire squad, including Mthethwa.

“This season, we have I think 32 players, and I have respect for all of them. If he’s in my plan – why do you ask me only about Mthethwa? We have too many other players,” said Nabi.

“We are all a group and Mthethwa has a good particular quality, and I don’t know, maybe after today he’s in the starting line-up for the Sundowns game [on Saturday].”

But I don’t want to talk too much about one player, I want to talk about the whole group.

“Nabi, through his translator, also reaffirmed his love for players who can stand up in big games and handle pressure, as he commented on the influence of Gastino Sirino, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Mfundo Vilakazi.”He’s one of the greatest examples of great quality and he has a lot of positive impact on the whole team, when you consider players like [Mduduzi] Shabalala, [Mfundo] Vilakazi or Samkelo [Zwane],” he shared.

“He has a lot of rage and at some point we can say it’s a good thing somehow because he’s one of the very serious [players] in terms of attacking and defensive involvement, when we see how he tracks back to defend, for example. These are the kind of players I like and if you remember, I already said I don’t want to have middle-class players, I just want to have top quality players like Sirino,” he added.
