Flexible Athletics Club athlete Jessica Mkwananzi earned two medals while representing Gauteng at the South African Schools Championships at Curro Sagewood in Midrand on 3 October 2026.
Competing in the under-17 girls’ 4km race, Jessica finished third to claim an individual bronze medal. She also received a gold medal as part of Gauteng’s team achievement.
According to Thato Tsotetsi, chairperson of Flexible Athletics Club and the Orange Farm Sports Council, this was Jessica’s second appearance for Gauteng this year. Earlier in the year, she finished fifth at the national high schools championships.
Tsotetsi said Jessica approached her latest competition determined to return home with a medal.
“Her aim this time was to make sure that she brings home a medal, which she did deliver indeed,” said Tsotetsi.
He praised her dedication and the pride her achievement brings to the community.
“We thank you, Jessica, for the hard work that you are doing and for making sure that you are putting Orange Farm on the map,” he said.
Tsotetsi also thanked coaches Sipho, Simon, Khanyisani and Dirocious, together with Flexible Athletics Club management members Mr Msibi and Nkeane, for supporting Jessica.
Her latest achievement adds an individual bronze and team gold to a year in which she has twice represented her province, giving Flexible Athletics Club and the Orange Farm community reason to celebrate.
