Community members in Drieziek came together for a mini walk aimed at raising awareness about violence, gangsterism and other social challenges affecting residents, while also creating space for networking, health awareness and community engagement.
The initiative, organised by the Solly Mathe Foundation under the theme “Enough is Enough – No More Tears”, brought residents together to speak about serious social issues facing Drieziek and surrounding communities.
The programme included a mini walk and opportunities for residents and stakeholders to interact and network. Health services also formed part of the activities, with young people reportedly coming out in numbers to access testing and learn more about their health.
Ward 5 Councillor Mxolisi Nzondo was among those who attended the community initiative.
Solly Mathe said the gathering demonstrated that addressing violence and other social challenges requires communities to work together.
“We enjoyed ourselves, but behind the activities was a very serious message. Our communities are facing violence and many other social challenges, and we cannot remain silent. This initiative was about bringing people together, networking and creating awareness while giving our young people an opportunity to take care of their health. We want to see the people of Drieziek standing together and saying enough is enough — no more tears,” said Mathe.
The campaign also encouraged residents to remember community members who have lost their lives to violence and called on different stakeholders to play an active role in building safer neighbourhoods.
Mathe said initiatives of this nature are intended not only to highlight problems but also to strengthen relationships within the community and encourage residents, particularly young people, to participate in positive programmes.
The event reflected a broader call for residents, community leaders and organisations to work collectively towards a safer, healthier and more united Drieziek.
