Orange Farm girls shine at OR Tambo Games
Two victories for the under-15 girls’ squad helped mark a successful outing for the Orange Farm Local Football Association (OFLFA) at the OR Tambo Games in Florida on Saturday, 19 September.
The girls opened with a convincing 6-0 win over Eldorado Park LFA before beating Deep South LFA 2-1. They finished their two matches with eight goals scored and just one conceded.
In a statement issued by OFLFA secretary Patrick Mokwena, the association congratulated the squad for its commitment, discipline and determination throughout the tournament.
Mokwena announced that 12 Orange Farm players had been selected following the games – six from the girls’ squad and six from the boys’ squad.
“This selection is an important recognition of the talent developing within Orange Farm and demonstrates the potential of our young footballers,” said Mokwena.
The boys faced a challenging start, losing 2–0 to Deep South LFA. They then held Soweto LFA to a goalless draw, keeping a clean sheet in their second match.
“Despite the defeat, our boys continued to compete with determination,” Mokwena said.
The tournament brought together players from different local football associations, providing an opportunity to test their abilities against other squads and earn recognition for further development.
Mokwena also acknowledged the coaches whose time and effort had helped prepare both teams, while recognising the support of parents and the broader football community.
“Your commitment to grassroots football is making a meaningful difference in the lives of our young people. The performances and player selections at the OR Tambo Games are a reflection of the hard work being done by our coaches, players, parents and the entire football community,” he said.
