The Orange Farm Local Football Association (OFLFA) has welcomed the support shown by residents and stakeholders during a community meeting aimed at addressing the grading and development of Mmabo Ground in Drieziek 1.
The meeting was held on August 31 at the sporting ground next to Mmabo Hardware, following concerns about the condition of the facility and waste that had reportedly been dumped on the site.
Community members were joined by representatives of ActionSA, including Ward 4 ActionSA councillor candidate Pule Earn Motloung, as well as the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) of the construction company linked to the dumping of waste at the ground.
Discussions centred on rehabilitating the ground and improving the facility for local football clubs, young players and the broader community.
According to OFLFA, the CLO committed to development work at the ground within the next four weeks. Further details about the exact scope of the planned work are still expected.
OFLFA secretary Patrick welcomed the engagement and thanked residents and stakeholders who attended.
“We appreciate everyone who came out to support the call for the grading and improvement of Mmabo Ground. This facility is important to our football community, especially our young players, and we want to see the commitments made today turn into real development on the ground,” Patrick said.
He added that improving local sporting facilities could create better opportunities for grassroots football and provide young people with a safer and more suitable space to develop their talent.
OFLFA said it would continue advocating for improved sporting infrastructure and would look forward to progress on the commitment made during the meeting over the coming weeks.
